This is a deep indigo selvedge denim.
Kaihara was founded in 1893 in the Hiroshima prefecture in Japan. Since it's one of the first denim mills in Japan, they maintain every step of the fabric's production.
Where the average denim manufacturer will dip their yarn 5-8 times in indigo, Kaihara dips their fibers 21-23 times. Giving the fabric a much deeper tone that produces a higher contrast with wear.
This fabric is 12.5oz, which is the standard jean weight. It's sanforized selvedge denim. Meaning that there will be minimal fabric shrinkage after washing the garment.
Modern companies that use Kaihara denim include Levis Japan, Madewell, APC, Nudie, and Tellason.
